Michel is leading a next generation of West Coast skaters— and his burgeoning influence is felt on his new Vans Skateboarding collection, which features the Skate Old Skool, Skate Half Cab ‘92 and apparel.
Nick Michel sees skateboarding differently; his onboard feats reflect his mindset. The Las Vegas-born, Los Angeles-based Vans Skateboarding team rider’s style is incomparable: his skating is smooth without being showy and technically complex without discordance, as seen in his myriad of memorable video parts.
Michel is globally recognized among the skate community but remains humble and loyal to the same crew he’s always been down with, no small feat for a rising star. In short, Michel’s essential skill is making difficult things look effortless on and off his board. His new collection with Vans Skateboarding reflects that ethos — custom takes on the Skate Old Skool and Skate Half Cab ‘92, along with a six-piece apparel and accessory collection.
Michel’s custom-designed iterations of the Skate Old Skool and the Skate Half Cab ‘92 both use a rich brown shade as their base tone, then accent it in alternating fashion with the Skate Old Skool using white foxing, jazz stripes, and laces, while the Skate Half Cab ‘92 sports navy foxing and two-tone, boot-style laces.
Besides the crisp color schemes, both pairs feature custom artwork from one of Michel’s friends, ranging from a custom tongue graphic and full-colored insole on the Skate Old Skool to a custom debossed embellishment on the Skate Half Cab’s heel. From a performance standpoint, each shoe also boasts Vans Skateboarding’s finest tech, from an energy returning PopCush™ insole to a long-lasting Duracap underlay and a SickStick™ rubber outsole for enhanced grip.
Accompanying both shoes is a concise set of apparel. The Check-5 Loose TPRD Denim Pant is built of 13.25oz denim and features co-branded labels, while the SS Woven shirt offers a custom plaid pattern and a relaxed fit. Finishing the offerings is an LS Thermal, PO Sweatshirt, SS Tee, Disorder Plus Backpack with a 24-liter capacity, padded laptop compartment, internal organizer, and more, all featuring artwork from Michel’s close friend, Sam Acosta.
